Abstract

Education is one of the bootstraps through which societies lift themselves on the ladder of development and civilisation. The quality of available and obtainable manpower in a society determines, to a great extent, the degree and level of development expected there. To spur development, manpower development is needed. This implies a need to re-strategise the status quo of obtainable education to improve and equip the manpower for increased and further development. Education has to be calibrated, bearing contemporary challenges in mind. The argument here is that new challenges require new skills and capabilities. At the core of these requirements is critical thinking. It is the catalyst for all other requirements. It is a necessary condition for realising all other variables needed for re-strategised education for capacity development.
